We're into week 3 of stage combat and it is safe to say I am thoroughly enjoying it. I believe my previous training in dance has given me the ability to pick up choreography faster, allowing me to create more innovative fight scenes. In addition to this, my training in acting from the previous year allows me to create dynamic and interesting fight scenes, even if the actual technique of the fight may still need work. For this lesson, we learnt how to put our fight partner into certain locks and how to counter those locks. I found this lesson challenging as I have discovered that my spacial reasoning is not as sharp as it used to be when I was a full-time dancer, thereby meaning that I struggled with figuring out how to move my body in such a way to counter the locks we had been taught. However, with perseverance and practice I managed to learn how to counter a choke lock. I used this in my fight scene with Ieuan Dolloway. I believe that my scene, overall, was successful as Ieuan and I have a mutual respect for each other, meaning that we know we won't hurt each other. The scene we created was a general bar fight scene with a few Chinese fighting moves. We included Haymakers, jabs, elbow hits and a kick to the ribs. We also included The Crane, a Chinese move which involves blocking a haymaker with one arm and jabbing your fingers into the eye of your opponent with the other. To improve this scene, I believe we needed to speed up the moves slightly more, consider angles (so the audience can't see that I'm *not* hitting my partner) and creating more substance to our characters.
